PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear School Community,

It is my great pleasure to write to you for the second edition of the newsletter. The first weeks have passed and it is good to see our students settled into their daily routine. I would like to share a few things with you.

Raihaan Syed’s Success in Cricket

Raihaan Syed is a very hard working, respectful and organised student in Grade 6. Besides his academic success in class, he also plays cricket on weekends for the Shepparton Cricket Association. In the 2017 season, he was presented with the Champion All-Rounder and Best Bowler Awards in the Under 12, for the Shepparton District. This is a significant achievement considering that he is the youngest player in his cricket team. I would like to congratulate him for this achievement and his parents for their support. I am certain that he will achieve more in the years to come.

School Uniform

Although we are in the 2nd half of this term, we still find some students not wearing correct school uniform which causes growing concern. We all believe that the quality of relationships between staff and students is of utmost importance. But when teachers have to constantly deal with students out of uniform, it causes unnecessary tension and frustration. Please make sure that your child comes to school with the correct school uniform which includes appropriate hair styles and shoes.

Sports Field Upgrade

Research show that physical activity stimulates growth and leads to improved physical and emotional health. Even moderate physical activity has been shown to improve a child’s skill in maths, reading and memorization. But sport, not just exercise, gives a child more than just physical well-being; it contributes to a child’s development both psychologically and socially. Currently we are upgrading our soccer field and basketball court. The work involves putting artificial grass on both fields and new fencing around the soccer field. During the construction work all the safety measures are being taken. However, we request parents/drivers to take extra caution when dropping off or picking up children. We also request parents not to park their cars in the front car park area during the construction for safety reasons. I would like to share some photos with you.

Soccer League

This year we would like to form age-levelled teams to play soccer in the league which is organised by the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association (SJSA). This is a not-for-profit school based sporting organization dedicated to providing students from schools in the Goulburn Valley with the opportunity to play soccer in a safe environment with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment rather than winning being the main reason for playing. The SJSA 2018 Season will run from April to September. All the matches are played on Saturdays. If you want your child to participate in the league, please send the permission forms back to the school.

Learning Club

The Learning Club is designed to support the students in Literacy and Numeracy. Lower grades are doing reading with the Save-the-Children staff whereas the upper primary students are having sessions with their teachers. The sessions take place on Mondays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Some refreshments are served before each session. If your child is in the Learning Club, please make sure that you fill in the registration form and return it to the office as soon as possible. The students also need to be supported at home by ensuring that they read, write and complete their homework daily.
